Cyanotype is one of the more commonly known Alternative Photographic Processes which produces lovely Prussian Blue images. It was invented in an exciting era of the 19th century, not long after photography was discovered – by the British scientist John Herschel. It was popular for a few decades until more capable processes took over.
The technique, together with a whole range of historic processes, are having a revival in the recent years just like so many of the craft or art media that celebrates human touches.
The workshop introduced the process from historical and cultural contexts, taking participants onto an interesting journey into the wonderful world of this alternative process through creating Cyanotype images.
These five courses offer participants general knowledge of the role, responsibilities and expectations of an Art Manager practising in Hong Kong. In the Manager’s daily operation, communications and connections made with all walks of life are both very challenging and exciting. As the profession requires exquisite attention to details, with the accumulating sensitivities to one’s surroundings, the Manager gains not only creative ways of problem-solving at work, but also the spirit and skills in exploring, discovering and even enjoying the difficulties encountered in the everyday lives. Having the talks and sharings arranged with five distinct focuses, in addition to the presentations on various case studies, we hope you will gain perspectives looking into the art industry, and bring insights to enjoy more of your current career (or, dive into the art administrative and managerial field).
This networking event and international conversation between Central Saint Martins (London) and HART Haus explored we [ breathe ] in the space between, an exhibition curated by MA Culture, Criticism and Curation students from Central Saint Martins. The exhibition presented new and recent works by 12 London and Hong Kong based artists responding to issues of in-betweenness, modernity, and urbanity.
An evening of experimental performances was held on 4th October 2019 (Friday), 7:00pm – 9pm at HART Haus. 27 young international artists and designers from the Transcultural Collaboration programme improvised in live with sounds and visuals. The performances were the results of a one-week CoLab workshop facilitated by guest artists Andreas Siagian (ID) and Simon Dietersdorfer (AU).
Known by mainstream audiences worldwide for her colourful artworks and global brand collaborations including – NIKE and Victoria’s Secret, mixed-media artist Natalie Wong presented her first large-scale installation work - “PLAYLOOP”. Wong’s latest work was an interactive sound and light installation created using over one thousand light-emitting diodes and motion-activated sensors. “PLAYLOOP” allowed participants to physically create distinct sounds using multiple audio loops in an interactive soundscape.
Learn to mix and pour your own concrete form, and play around with pigments to add color and create patterns on the casted piece. The base formwork was provided for the participants - generated using 3D printing. Together with other attendees, your unique creation will be pieced together to form a collective artwork.
Quite a few established institutions in Hong Kong have addressed the needs for professional training for individuals, who are interested to learn the role of art administrator and art managers, but there are very few continuous discussions and explorations for such demands. For this very brief 105 minutes encounter that we are to co-create at HART Haus, let us discover a few aspects of this subject matter:
How ‘all-rounded’ should an art administrator/manager be – and why the role is expected to perform in such a way?
How many types of art administrators/ managers are there in Hong Kong? – A general overview
The myths of the art world in the eyes of an art manager – let us start with a keyword hunting game

As its name suggests, zentangle is a Zen practice inspired by Mahayana Buddhism emphasizing the value of meditation and intuition. It is an American-born drawing technique based on strings and circles, filling spaces with simple yet repetitive strokes, demonstrating beauty in a complicated picture. People can enter a meditative state through creating zentangle patterns, therefore it is also known as ‘yoga for the brain’.

As the arts and cultural scene in Hong Kong proliferates, it has never been an easy journey for many local practitioners in the field. No matter whether you are an artist, an art administrator, or a representative from an art initiative/non-profit organisation, one needs to pass through many hurdles in order to see the fruits ripen. From content creation, seeking resources, to planning and execution of cultural events, as well as maintaining different kinds of spaces/institutions/organisations, how do we survive for the identities and roles we chose to take for ourselves? What are our priorities and values?
HART has the pleasure to be able to invite three insiders of the field to share with us their own stories and lessons learnt. Speakers of the evening include:
Jaime Chong, independent artist in Hong Kong, currently participant of our Social Studio project (Hausian)
Susi Law, cultural engineer of Art & Cultural Outreach, also an artist and curator
Jeannie Wu, director of HART Collective, also director of Hong Kong Archives Society, arts advisor

我認為藝術必須是一種體驗。漫步於別人的想法之中,感覺非常奇妙。」—— Raphaële de Broissia

For his 25th exhibition: “LIFE IS A JOURNEY”, Antoine Rameau, a French artist calling Hong Kong his home for 8 years, has created a black ink painted collages series, that must be seen as a mural fresco.
Those 10 puzzle-pieces integrate strong Asian art influences: black Chinese ink painting, Japanese woodblock printing on paper (ukiyo-e) and the repeated circle shape, symbol of perfection (associated to the Moon or the Sun, the Ying and Yang…).
The cave-like stalagtites and stalagmites also refer to traditionally painted Chinese Yellow Mountains in Anhui province, that he loves.
Rameau sees today’s life as an epic underwater cave diving journey! From the day we are born to the last one, we all navigate in a long cavern-shaped tunnel and must avoid daily obstacles, up and down. Sometimes the path is broad and easy (happiness, joy, mindfulness…), sometimes it is very narrow and difficult (fear, sadness, phobia…). The key to a safe life journey is our own ability to be a careful and attentive pilot between those two extremes, highlighted by black and white colors and opposite papers textures, of the genuine, damaged and ripped 1930’s French “L’Illustration” magazines he used.
