Mae Chan 陳潔婷 (HK/UK)

A graduate from the Royal College of Art, UK with a Master of Mixed Media–Textile in 2021, Chan’s artistic practice rooted in poetic and narrative traditions. Her work intrigues the viewers to build empathetical connections, through emotion-driven mediums, textures, and shapes. The mixed-media sculptures combined with various combination techniques, performance documentation photographs appeal to our emotions dancing between different contexts of intimacy, boundary, and observation. Playing with the semiotics of form and contact, she dissects subtle emotional shifts, leveraging the human form as a foundational metaphor. As a young artist currently lives and works in Hong Kong, Chan received numerous grants and awards, including ‘Developing Your Creative Practice’ grant from Arts Council England and the Norwegian Textile Artists' Association Grant 2022. She was a finalist nominee for the 2021 Ingram Prize and The New Craftsmen Award at Cockpit Arts (2021). As an inaugural exposure in Hong Kong at HART Haus, Chan has extensive overseas exhibitions, such as “BBA Artist Prize 2022” (Kühlhaus, Berlin, 2022); “Soft Dialogue London Craft Week” (London, 2022); “REVERB” (Visual Arts Scotland online, 2022); “The 2021 Ingram Prize” (London, 2022); “Intimate Spectres” (Young Space Views online, 2022); and various galleries in the UK.
