Sin Wai Kin (b. 1991, Toronto) brings fantasy to life through storytelling in moving image, performance, writing, and print. Drawing on experiences of binary categories, their work realizes alternate worlds to describe lived experiences of desire, identification and consciousness. Sin was shortlisted for the Turner Prize 2022 and the 2024 Film London Jarman award, and they received the 24th Baloise Art Prize at Art Basel 2023.

Sin returns to Hong Kong this month to open their second solo exhibition with Blindspot Gallery, on view from 24 March to 10 May 2025. The exhibition features Sin’s latest video works which will be shown alongside face wipes imprinted with the make-up of Sin’s characters featured in the films. The exhibition opening is on 22 March, 3-6pm, with an artist talk (between Sin Wai Kin and John Tain, Curator of the Lahore Biennale 2024) at 4:30pm. Sin is also presenting a video work newly commissioned by M+, as part of the exhibition, “The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Picasso for Asia—A Conversation”.

We are delighted to announce that Sin will be joining us for an artist residency at HART Haus from 14 March to 6 April, 2025. An artist meet & greet along with a screening of their work The Story Cycle will be held on 29 March, and we invite everyone to join us.

About The Story Cycle

The Story Cycle was commissioned by Somerset House London, supported by the DCMS and Arts Council through the Culture Recovery Fund. The video considers how cycles of listening, embodying, and storytelling construct our idea of human nature. It follows two clowns as they search for their place in unfolding narratives set in strange infrastructures, told by an unreliable storyteller.
