Artist Class
Mae Chan: Felted Creations & Connections
Christmas is just around the corner, and we would love to invite you to a creative journey of self-healing with HART artist-in-residence Mae Chan! Intimacy and personal relationships are recollections of warmth and confusion, in which we will explore the complexity and profound emotions through this tactile art journey. This workshop offers a space to express such emotions and reconnect with your core. The event includes a studio tour, a wet felting workshop, and a sharing.
What can you experience?
1. Studio Tour
Mae will share her artistic process with you, showing how she uses fibre to transform intimacy and memories into tangible forms. You are invited to explore her material collection and feel the interplay of emotion and texture in her work.
2. Wool Felting Workshop
Experience wet felting with Mae: tearing and layering the wool, you will feel how each fibre intertwines with your emotions. Through each press and stretch, you’ll give form to your tactile memories, bringing to life an art piece with emotional depth and texture.
3. Sharing
Once the creative work is completed, we’ll share our pieces, discuss the creative process, and explore the different aspects of intimacy. In an open, welcoming atmosphere, we’ll connect through shared experiences and uncover those deeper, unspoken feelings.

About the Artist
Mae Chan’s practice is a multi-disciplinary fusion of textiles, sculpture and craft. Rooted in the poetic, narrative, and artisanal traditions, her work reframes objects within different contexts of intimacy, boundary, and judgment. Playing with the semiotics of form and touch, she dissects subtle emotional shifts, leveraging the human form as a foundational metaphor.
Graduated from the Royal College of Art with a Masters in Textiles in 2021, Chan received the ‘Developing Your Creative Practice’ Grant from the Arts Council England and the ‘Air Green Residency’ Grant from the Norwegian Textile Artists’ Association 2022. She was also a finalist nominee for the 2021 Ingram Prize and The New Craftsmen Award at Cockpit Arts (2021). Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including Thrown Contemporary (UK), London Craft Week (UK), Visual Arts Scotland (UK), Unit 1 Gallery | Workshop (UK), Young Space Views (UK), HART (HK), Kühlhaus (Berlin) and Søndre Green (Norway).
Mae Chan
她的作品曾於國際展出,包括 Thrown Contemporary(英國)、倫敦工藝週(英國)、蘇格蘭視覺藝術(英國)、Unit 1 Gallery | Workshop(英國)、Young Space Views(英國)、HART(香港)、Kühlhaus(柏林)和 Søndre Green(挪威)。
