HART/Beat Sharing #3 - On Art Administration and Management

Missed the chance to join our last HART/Beat Sharing#2 on Art Administration and Management in August? Don't worry! We are bringing it back - this time on a Saturday for in-depth discussions and interactions!

Quite a few established institutions in Hong Kong have addressed the needs for professional training for individuals, who are interested to learn the role of art administrator and art managers, but there are very few continuous discussions and explorations for such demands. For this very brief 105 minutes encounter that we are to co-create at HART Haus, let us discover a few aspects of this subject matter:

  • How ‘all-rounded’ should an art administrator/manager be – and why the role is expected to perform in such a way?

  • How many types of art administrators/ managers are there in Hong Kong? – A general overview

  • The myths of the art world in the eyes of an art manager – let us start with a keyword hunting game

There are quite a lot of other facets and scopes of arts and cultural management that we will not touch upon, such as fund-raising for projects or very specific fields like professional lighting design for a staged performance, which pin-point our target audience: yes, you! Who have a strong urge to learn about the vocation – perhaps you are a professional nurse, stylist, shop owner; or a local fresh arts graduate, or a practitioner in our field questioning yourself everyday about our industry – together let us drive an enjoyable conversation at the studio.

Carrying on some of the similar topics covered at our May 4th sharing, additional to this session, we hope you will gain more passion and guts to take up more challenges that HART offers in the near future: a short course consisting of 5 sessions is on the way, stay tuned!

Date: September 14, 2019 (Saturday)
Time: 3pm-5pm
Venue: HART Haus, 3/F, Cheung Hing Industrial Building, 12P Smithfield, Kennedy Town, Hong Kong
Language: Cantonese/English, subject to participants’ needs

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Jeannie WU (Director of HART)

Experienced Consultant with a Master of Arts focused in Literary & Cultural Studies from The University of Hong Kong, and a demonstrated history of working in the management consulting industry. Wu’s role as an art dealer at Vermillion Art Collections allowed Wu to gain insight in depth into contemporary art collecting and connect closely with artists, in particular helping renowned local artist ‘Frog King’ to organise his studio. She actively engaged in various large-scale projects as Project Officer at Hong Kong Arts Centre such as ‘Hong Kong Short Film: New Action Express’. Wu then further expanded and consolidated her network within the local art scene during her freelance work supporting the artist-run initiative Painting On and On. After 4 years of working as Personal Assistant to collector/consultant/curator William Zhao, Wu took up key positions at K11 Art Foundation as Cultural Manager and now, HART Collective as Director to lead within the art and cultural industry, break boundaries and connect creative talents within the network.

HART/Beat
